With recommendations from family and friends, a wedding soon came together, wrapped in a colourful bow tie theme.
“We were really thrilled at how wonderful our family and friends looked with the sunlight pouring through the stained glass windows of the church. It made for a really fun atmosphere and it was great to see some people go all out”.

Will was active in planning much of the special day, including doing most of the legwork on the invitations and arranging the music.
“When making dinner, Will often puts fun and interesting tunes on. He chose Buona Sera, by Louis Prima for our first dance- a really fun song with a nice wedding touch in the lyrics. Something we’ll enjoy listening and dancing to for many years!” says Margot.

For Will, the ring shopping took longer than anticipated, but he finally settled on a style that he hoped Margot would love- which she does, not just because it is simple and elegant, but because it was chosen especially for her which makes it all the more personal.

Classic elegance also epitomised Margot’s dress- a beautiful custom made gown by dressmaker Paul Cowley- an avenue that was stumbled upon during a trip to Paris.
“I was in Paris just after Will proposed, visiting a friend, and she took me to a fabric market in Montmartre. We were having fun sorting through messy piles of fabric when I found some beautiful ivory silk organza. This helped me start the process of getting my own dress made, which actually turned out to be the most relaxing and wonderful part of the wedding preparations.

My dressmaker (Paul Cowley) was fantastic and he took me from the early design phase right through the week before the wedding when the dress was finished. I met him at Alla Moda, where he helped me pick some beautiful lace, which Mum bought for me as a gift to add to my dress”.

For Margot, her favourite part of the planning was having the wedding reception at her family home (the ceremony was at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rosalie) in Ashgrove.
“In the week leading up to the wedding day, a lot of family and friends were flying in. It meant all of the excitement was centred around the family home and I could see day by day, the whole thing coming together. We left with the last guests at 4am, turning off the lights, having made the absolute most of the day”.

• The wedding bouquets were by Phoebe Stevens in James St, and the roses on the tables at the reception were from a stall at the West End markets
• Margot walked down the aisle to Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring by JS Bach
• The wine was a Basket Range made by Will’s uncle and aunt, Phillip and Mary Broderick
• The band for the wedding reception was the Rush Band, and in Margot and Will’s opinion, is possibly the best party band ever
• The groom and groomsmen’s suits were black dinner suits from Harry Henry
• The bridesmaid’s dress was Ginger and Smart, bought from Olive Home in Paddington
• The cake was carrot and made with love by a friend
• Margot borrowed antique pearl earrings from a friend to wear on her special day
• Margot arrived in her father’s Kombi van driven by her brother David
